Gutter InstallationSt. Louis

St. Louis homeowner guide

What do new gutters cost in St. Louis, and how do you read a quote?

By Gutter Installation St. Louis, a referral service. Updated November 3, 2026.

Short answer

Angi lists an average of about $1,094 for seamless gutters in St. Louis, usually $856 to $1,331, and says the area runs about 5% below the national average. Homewyse's national estimate for May 2026 starts at $6.29 to $10.45 per linear foot. Both are rough. Only a written quote after a measurement tells you what your house will cost.

Worth remembering
  • Published figures are a sanity check, not a price.
  • Tall walls, corners, downspouts, removal and trim repair are what move a quote.
  • A good quote lists footage, size, gauge, hangers, downspouts and removal separately.
  • Ask for a unit price on rotten trim, so surprises have a known cost.

We quote those sources and set no prices ourselves. We don't do the work, and a contractor's price is theirs to set. Web cost pages change often and often disagree, so check the date on anything you read, including this.

What moves the price on a St. Louis house

  • Height. A three-story brick wall takes more time and equipment than a ranch.
  • Corners and outlets. Each one is labor and a joint.
  • Downspouts. Count and size. Big roofs often need more.
  • Removal. Taking down old gutters and hauling them away. Old steel or built-in systems take longer.
  • Trim. Rotten fascia, or a cornice needing a carpenter.
  • Masonry. Careful fixing into old brick takes longer than screwing into wood.
  • Material. Aluminum, steel, zinc, copper, K-style or half-round.
  • Access. Narrow gangways, alleys, slate roofs and gardens.
  • Review. Time for a historic-district approval, if one applies.

How to compare two quotes

Line them up. A cheaper quote may use thinner metal, fewer downspouts or wider hanger spacing, or may leave out removal. Webster Groves' advice for homeowners is to get written estimates from at least three contractors, compare materials, methods and timelines, and be wary of bids much higher or lower than the rest.

Paying

The same guidance warns against large deposits, cash and paying in full up front, and describes a one-third initial payment as standard for larger projects. Make checks out to the company, not a person, and keep a file of the contract, change orders and receipts.

Questions

Why don't you publish your own prices?

Because we don't do the work. Independent contractors set their own prices, and we have no St. Louis price data of our own that we could stand behind. We'd rather point to named sources and show you how to read a quote.

Is a free estimate normal?

Many contractors offer one, but policies differ. Ask before anyone visits, so you know whether a measurement or trip charge applies.

Should I just take the lowest bid?

The Missouri Attorney General's office has long pointed out that the lowest bid isn't necessarily the best. Check what's left out, compare metal and hangers, and verify insurance before you decide.

Do repairs cost less than a new system?

Usually, if the problem is local. If the metal or the wood behind it is failing along the run, repeat repairs can overtake replacement. Ask for both prices.
